this is a wordle of the themes and convetions of a thriller . also it shows the key themes of the our film opening .
codes and conventions of a thriller film cant be split into three parts sound, editing and mise-en-scene .
  • editing : quick cuts, camera angle changes
  •  lighting, especially the use of shadow. mirrors and stairs are also conventions of thriller movies. Noir - very dark ,Chiaroscuro - light against dark - creates a sense of illusion, nightmare whilst also being aesthetically pleasing.
  • Claustrophobic setting is a thriller convention , for example : planes ,coffins ,under water ,boot of a car ,elevator/lift ,walk in freezer ,tube trains ,white van ,small room ,car ,prison cell ,narrow alleyways ,multi-storey car parks are all popular chocies .
  • plots of thrillers usally include :Suprises & Twists ,Plays With Viewers Mind ,Quick Cuts & Change Of Camera Angles ,Music To Add Tension ,Use Of Lighting To Create Shaddows ,Mirrors ,Stairs ,From Killers Point Of View,Flash Backs ,Pass Of Time Sequences,Make Audience Think

    You have now done useful research on the codes and conventions of thrillers and have watched 'There Will Be Blood'Anderson, 2007)'Goodfellas'(Scorsese 1990) and 'A Clockwork Orange'(Kubrik 1962)
